SBI success formula

What would it mean to me to win this contest?

The statistics are not in favor for any small business entrepreneur. Depending on where you get your numbers, around 80% fail. The reasons are varied, of course, but the main one is usually lack of business experience or competence. However, when you have a mentor to help guide you – that 80% statistic is drastically reduced.

My father taught me at a young age to cultivate a passion for whatever interests me, so that one day I could translate this energy into my career. As an immigrant from Holland, he dedicated his life to becoming a successful businessman and to providing for his family of five children. He is now in his early 80s and has enjoyed watching me develop my practice as a registered massage therapist. I am grateful for my education and experience – although I have been working as a therapist for less than two years, my practice is nearly full. I have found my true passion in life.

While I have focused on both clinical massage and workplace massage in the early stages of my career, I am gravitating toward work place massage for my future because the demand is huge and I can’t keep up. For the last five years, I have dreamt about starting a website business that allows for a passive income. The brainstorming tools suggested by SBI have helped me to hone my ideas. My website idea compliments and utilizes my workplace massage experience. It centers on workplace injury (mainly treatment of computer-related issues like carpal tunnel syndrome, neck tension, bad posture, etc.) and proactive solutions. In addition to knowledge transfer, I also have an excellent product idea for the website.

So, now to finally answer the question: “what would it mean to me to win this contest?”

Winning this contest would enable me to access the resources necessary to ensure that I am in the top 20% of small businesses that succeed over the long term. My wife and I plan to start a family in the next two years. I want to take advantage of this opportunity so that I can bring to fruition the dreams of my career and family.
