RSI and massage

by Chris
(Columbus, OH)

If have have repetitive stress injury in my right wrist, is that going to affect me being a massage therapist? I have heard of massage therapist's developing carpal tunnel, and then overcoming it with proper exercises and being able to practice.

The right school could help
by: Hans Albert Quistorff LMP

Repetitive stress injury can happen in most professions if improper posture is involved.
As you commented many have become massage therapists because that is the modality that helped them overcome RSI. A lot will depend on the quality of the school that you attend. I recommend that you go to the student clinic of a school that you are interested in and ask for help with your RSI. The supervising instructor should be able to match you with a student that understands your problem and/or assist the student.
If they are not able to help you it is not a school that you would want to attend with your condition.
