Massage Therapy Jobs
Massage Therapy Jobs are in currently in demand. But there is much more to the job outlook than most massage schools or associations will tell you about. What everyone seems to want to know is: How much can I make as a massage therapist? Are massage therapy jobs easy to find? What is the average salary for a beginning massage therapist and experienced massage therapists? What is an general job description?
I am often amazed at the number of people constantly asking about how much they can make in a job as a massage therapist. It seems that more and more people are searching for jobs in the massage profession. When I went to massage school in 1987 there were very few jobs and most students didn't think about getting a job. Going to massage school meant starting your own practice back then and still does today. While there are more jobs becoming available, the amount of schooling and investment in time seem hardly worth it if you are just going off to work for someone else for $10-$12 an hour. Most often, massage therapists will start their own business, rather than finding a job. In general, it is much more financially, emotionally, and spiritually rewarding. You may want to begin your own business by working for someone else to take the pressure off. You can learn the ropes while working for someone and go off on your own when you are ready. So, if you are still concerned about finding out how much you can make and if you will be able to find a job, you will have to do some work of your own to figure that out. The answer to these questions is really more about you. Massage therapy jobs are as difficult to find as any other job. They are as easy to find as any other job. It all depends on the confidence you have in yourself and the commitment you make to becoming a massage professional. Salaries can average from $20,000 a year to $120,000 a year. The
Massage Therapy Job Description
put out by the Department of Labor is misleading and inaccurate. It all depends on what you are willing to accept as a salary in a job and what kind of job you are willing to take. Since the massage profession is really in it's infancy, you have the opportunity to create the job of your dreams if you dare. You really have the opportunity to create the job of your dreams if you want to put the time and energy into it! Massage schools will most likely tell you that Massage Therapy jobs are currently in demand and that you can make $45 an hour or more. Let's face it - they are trying to get you to pay them lots of money and enroll in their school. Massage therapy is being recognized as a health care profession in many states. More and more physicians are becoming aware of the necessity of massage in healing back pain, neck pain along with supporting the healing process of many other diseases and conditions. Massage therapy is being used in resorts and spas as a part of stress reduction programs and relaxation therapy. More people are searching out massage when all other therapies have left them struggling to find an answer. Massage is no longer considered the luxury service that it once was. Massage therapy is now an integral part of health and is a necessity in today’s world of stress and conflict. While the massage profession may seem to be booming, high paying massage therapy jobs are still hard to find.
Massage Therapy Salaries
are inaccurately portrayed by the profession to make it more appealing. Jobs are usually low paying ($10.00 -$25 per hour) with long hours and difficult hours (weekends and evenings!). Massage Therapy Jobs are mostly entry level positions with little chance for advancement or recognition. Many people come to massage to get away from the 8-5 job syndrome and create more meaningful work through creating their own hours and salaries. The majority of massage therapists start their own business as it is usually much more financially and emotionally rewarding than working as an employee or sub-contractor. But starting and running a business is not for everyone.
