Massage Research Center
We are only just now beginning to understand the value of research for the massage profession. As more consumers use massage, the greater the need to understand the process of massage so we can further educate the public as to what massage really can do.My issue with massage research is when you really stop to think about it, how can we really measure the results of any study that uses techinques and has so many variables. How can we do research that includes the value of the therapeutic relationship that develops between a massage therapist and a client? How can we apply a technique in the same way when it is done by many various people and really gage the results? I guess it is a place to begin with in the quest to heal and understand. The two major research centers are the
Touch Research Institute
and the
Massage Therapy Foundation
TRI is funded by Johnson & Johnson Pediatric Institutes, National Institutes of Health, March of Dimes, Biotone and other companies. The Massage Therapy Foundation was created by the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) Other resources: www.massage-therapy-research.com Does Massage Work? by Paul Ingram Internet Health Library Journal Club Online - Yahoo Discussion Group on Research
