Berkeley & Albany CA Massage Licensing
I practiced there ~6 years ago. I was very thankful that there was no licensing there so students could learn how to build a massage practice and deal with money issues right from day one of their education. A business license was recommended but I never got one.
In Albany there's a law that's been on the books since 1929 where you have to submit to a VD test in order to practice. Two of my colleagues went to get business licenses there. One was given one right away; the other (equally as conservative-looking) had to show her fingernails to a policeman and was told if she wanted a business license she'd have to take a VD test. (She never did).
I never tried to get my license, and was never checked up on, even though I worked in a fairly well-known office.
The newspapers in the area refuse to separate therapeutic from sexual massage, so just about every female practitioner gets wanker calls if she advertises. Some (women) had good luck with the yellow pages, others just got more wankers.
